During my firing, I knew I had a lot of time to kill. You’re stuck there ALL day firing!
So, as typical for most firing days, I spent several hours cleaning & putting my studio
back together. The pace was a mess for the past couple days of frantic glazing & prepping.
When I finally had a clean studio… it was time to mess it up again!
With “Art In The Barn” just one week away… and Fall kicking in all around us…
I felt I needed to make some more of my terra cotta “monsters” that were a hit last year!
So I started throwing some terra cotta cylinders that will be transformed into their
alter-ego’s over the next couple days. And that’s all I’ve got… my next kiln is scheduled
for Wednesday night. Which means I need to get them all assembled & decorated in the
next few days, underglaze them, glaze them, load them & fire them… and hopefully get them
out of the kiln Friday evening… just in time for Saturday’s kick-off to “Art In The Barn.”
So they may not look like much now… but these will become pumpkins…
And these will be come skulls…
And these will become Frankenstein monsters!!!… if all goes as planned…
Still hoping to make a fourth “monster” too… but too sure I’ll have time?!
And I’m still looking for some “monster inspiration”? Any suggestions???
Gary, your site is incredible. I think skulls, Dracula, werewolf and Bride of frankenstein would be great. I have been working from sketches I did last year as well as the ghosts and frankenstein and a goofy ghoul. I would be very interested in seeing your spin on these. Last years were amazing. A witch is another classic. You have plenty of time to do all of these, Right?
Plenty of time to do these??? HA… you’re funny!!!
I had some studio time today to work on them. Tomorrow night (Monday) I need to unload my soda kiln. Tuesday night I teach my adult wheelthrowing class. Wednesday the “monsters” need to go into a kiln. So they can fire and cool in time to go to the “Art In The Barn” art fair THIS coming weekend!!! Yep, once again, I should have started a LOT sooner! I’m not quite sure how this is going to come together?! When they’re all going to get assembled? Or when they’re going to get painted with underglaze?! Or clear glaze?!
So here’s my “monster” plan… I’m making 18 more of each character from last year. They sold really well so I’m replenishing the ‘tried & true.’ As of today, the fourth “new” piece will “hopefully” be a vampire!!! If I find the time??? So I doodled for awhile, came up with a plan, threw the cylinders tonight for them, and let them start “setting up” so I can decorate them later. Tonight I made all of the pumpkins, and half of the Frankensteins. Still not sure when I’m going to find time for all of this?
Thanks for checking in…
and thanks for the nice comment about my blog. I’m always glad to hear that anybody is out there reading my little ramblings?!!!
