Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play
Categories: bike, Chicago, sunrise, weather

Well, after yesterday’s storms, the clouds were still hanging out and the winds were quite strong. I was at camp and in the studio ALL day yesterday… apparently the storm was worse than I thought?!

It was the “calm before the storm” this morning as it was terra-cotta day at a Wheelthrowing Summer Camp today. Notice how “clean” everything starts out… before the kids arrive!

A little cloudy & hazy this morning. I couldn’t decide if the sun was ever going to make it through… and it finally did.

So I must admit that this morning was pretty dreary. I had really low expectations as I started out with gray, foggy, overcast skies. In my head, I figured I would “just bike” and never see a sunrise photo moment today. And then THIS happened!!!

If you were to look at your calendar, you might realize that this coming weekend has traditionally been the Evanston Lakeshore Arts Festival. But not THIS year!!! After 35 years, the City of Evanston has chosen to cancel their own show. No reason. No explanation.

So instead, you can come up to Glenview in two weeks for ART IN THE GARDEN
for your Fire When Ready Pottery hook-up!!! More to come…

It’s Day Two of Wheelthrowing Camp… with a quick chocolate treat after camp.
You know, those yummy Dove Dark Chocolate “Promises” with a little message inside
on the foil wrapper?… well, here’s today’s message… yep, got that covered!!!

Big sky show with rippled reflections across the lakefront.

Another warm & tranquil morning. Sunrise reflections on the rippled water. Beautiful clouds playing with the sun changing colors along the way.

This past Saturday, I substituted for another wheelthrowing intermediate class…
and showed them all how to make the textured slab & wheelthrown combo mugs.
So here’s another batch from class that I will dip in a thin flashing slip, dry, bisque fire
and then send through my next soda kiln!
