One of my former students went up to Waukesha, Wisconsin this weekend for the FIRED ARTS EXPO. A bunch of pottery, tools & fun for we mud-lovers… wish I would have remembered about it?! Shoot. Anyway, it was fun to see that Ellen stopped by the MKM POTTERY TOOLS booth to buy some new texture tools… and apparently the discussion turned to ME!!! When worlds collide… former students & pottery loving tool-makers! So glad Ellen got some cool tools… and an MKM postcard featuring ME!!!

After a quick summer camp demo, Colette took on a fun carving texture challenge… using one of my favorite DiamondCore Tools! Even the older kids appreciate using nicer tools for finer line carvings. And Colette rocked it!!!

With a rainy start to the day, I ended up adding some colored flashing slip details in the studio early this morning before heading down to summer camp!!!

After last night’s crazy storms, it’s nice to have some natural serenity of wild plants growing along the railroads… gracefully arching with great colors, contrasts & textures. Perfect for a natural Texture Tuesday.

After the “surprise” rain this afternoon… it was back into the studio to do a little more platter stamping. Changing a plain wheelthrown platter into a decoratively textured platter. All with just one handmade clay stamp pressed in over & over & over again!

A little cloudy this morning, so I went into the studio for another 10×10 challenge… and I tackled a batch of rectangle tiles that I’ve been formulating a “plan” for! Some of the tiles were made with my MKM Pottery Tools … while others were made with my own handmade clay stamps.

Time for some more stamping… using one stamp pattern for each pot. Just making each one a little different… all the while hoping the stamps line-up & don’t overlap in some crazy way when I get back around to where I started!!! Fingers crossed…

By now you know my mantra… MORE IS MORE.

Why stop with a smooth platter with a good spiral?… when you could create a cool texture?! So much more fun when you start stamping with one handmade stamp. One stamp, two stamp, three stamp, more! Over & over & over again… just one stamped impression at a time!
