A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

This weekend I received a wonderful gift from one of my many Talented Friends!
Allison did a new illustration every day through the month of October… Ink-tober !
One of her masterpieces featured one of my stamped & soda-fired mugs upfront & centered. Huge thanks to Allison for my gift… and for sharing her art & talents with all of us!

As part of our last pottery class, my students were challenged to make a plate for our class White Elephant type trading-stealing game. After a lot of fun & trading, I came home with this porcelain beauty made by my teaching assistant Susan Slogoff. Using liquid latex & black underglaze for her stunning surface design.

Don’t you just love getting free stuff in the mail?!
Especially when it’s a poster of great pottery pieces…
and yours just happens to be placed next to your buddy Steven Hill’s glazed teabowl.

Well, I’m extremely honored to have been chosen to have a teabowl in this year’s TEABOWL NATIONAL gallery show at the Bredin-Lee Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri. The TEABOWL NATIONAL 2017 show opens tomorrow with an Opening Reception from 5:00-9:00pm. You can also check-out the show to see all of the other teabowls online… click here to see all of the teabowls chosen by Juror Chandra Debuse.

You gotta love when random art “installations” pop-up in the middle of nowhere. Like these great piles of stacked rocks along the bike trail on the South Side. I love when someone decides that they want to stop and “play” with some rocks. Making these great little stacks… left behind for people like me to enjoy & appreciate. Thank you… whoever.

The two things that made me smile the most during the ArtWalk.
One, the fun ongoing wood project that encouraged the kids to measure, cut, drill, sand, etc to build a wooden fort right there on Ravenswood. So cute.

And two, this crazy cool assemblage sculpture piece by Mathias Schergen. A whole bunch of crazy-cool parts & pieces put together to guarantee a smile! So much fun!!!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by my studio this weekend during the Ravenswood ArtWalk. I met a lot of fun folks… and got a LOT of work done. Which was great as ART IN THE BARN is this weekend!!! Towards the end of Sunday, I did skip out a bit early to see some of the other studios and to enjoy the visual feast at Architectural Artifacts just down the street.
