Tonight I finished making the first batch of Christmas ornaments.
Finished stamping, trimming, adding tops and some slip painted accents!
Now they’re setting out overnight to dry… then to the bisque!
Coming soon, another batch… probably with B-Clay. I’ve found that the B-Clay
ornaments make perfect filler in the back stack of the soda kiln. With less soda
exposure, the B-Clay still flashes well and soaks up everything it needs!
Love the ornaments! Can’t wait to see how they turn out.
Yeah… me too!
But they’ll have to wait for my next soda kiln to be finished. I’ll try to remember to post photos when they’re fired & done. Thanks for the comment Sue.
Hey Gary,
Thanks (not!) for posting the pics of the Christmas ornaments! My wife (a Christmas decorating madwoman) now wants me to make her about 50 or so for her tree! When yours are finished, let me know how much you want for one, so I can see how you made them. I can’t wait to see yours come out of the soda kiln!
No problem Robert. Sorry if I’ve gotten you “in trouble” and have added another item to your “Honey Do List.” But coincidentally, I just made 37 more last night… some in B-Clay and some in Porcelain! Just to keep the wife excited… ha!!!
I just wanted to say I have been searching everywhere for quality hand made Christmas ornaments and yours are, by far, the nicest I have found. I can’t wait to see them finished. I visit this site often and I am always inspired by your beautiful work!
SHELLY – Thanks for the great comments. I started making these ornaments last year. I’ve struggled for years to determine how I wanted to make “my” ornaments. I wanted them to be light enough to really use… as well as show off my own style & techniques. As a wheelthrower, all of the previous “efforts” with handbuilt ornaments kinda fell flat. I’m pretty excited about these ornaments and really enjoy making them. I will definitely post more pictures of them when they come out of the soda kiln. Thanks for playing on my blog! GARY
