I’m pretty excited about these new little cuties. They’re pretty much my “first” foray into porcelain… thanks to Emily for giving me all of her reclaim scraps a few months back.
They looked pretty sweet in the kiln, and even sweeter as I’m prepping them for this weekend’s Holiday Home Show. Love the soda finish on porcelain, and the colorful orange slip variations
I’m among the many others who find your work filled with creative inspiration! Currently, I’m working thru my own process with textures and stamping but limited to cone 6. Using iron oxide wash has not been as successful as I had hoped. Clear glaze tends to absorb the IO wash with disappointing results. Any suggestions?
Maybe an underglaze?? Also working on my own glazes, but about ready to purchase commercial to get me closer.
Kindles have much to be desired for leaving comments. My apologies for the duplicates.
JODI – I’m pretty new to glazing for Cone 6. But I do think that a black underglaze might be “stronger” and hold-up better than an iron oxide wash. I’m afraid the best suggestion is to do an assortment of test tiles, with different washes and/or underglazes with an assortment of glazes. The more testing you do, the wider range of results & knowledge you’ll get. As for commercial glazes vs. hand-mixed glazes… I find the pre-mixed, store-bought ones to be more flat. My mixed glazes have a lot more depth & interest to them. Again… I have two words for you… TEST TILES.
