After a full day in Evanston, I swung by the studio last night to do some last minute throwing. I’m teaching a Soda-Firing Workshop next weekend and I need to make some more pots quick to help fill the kiln… and replenish some of the pieces that went to good homes during the art fair!
One of the fun parts of the art fair circuit is playing with your booth neighbors. I did a little trading with my neighbor to the south yesterday for this flirty little bird… and a fun colored rock!!! Check out Rhonda Shouf in Booth #33 to get your own whimsical cutie.
It was a beautiful day yesterday at the Evanston Lakeshore Arts Festival. Incredible weather, great breeze, a LOT of fun customers and a fantastic “backyard” booth view of the lake!!! Looking forward to another fun day in Dawes Park again today. Booth #32 from 11:00am-6:00pm.
Beautiful sunrise colors sweeping across the sky and backlighting the Chicago Skyline.
Looks like we’re off to a beautiful start to a great weekend. Perfect for the Evanston Lakeshore Fine Arts Festival in Dawes Park today & tomorrow. I’ll be in Booth #32 at the southeast end of the pond.
And then, sometimes THIS happens… timing is everything…
Looks like it’s going to be a beautiful weekend to hang out in Dawes Park for the Evanston Lakeshore Arts Festival. I’ll be in Booth #32 at the southeast end of the pond… with an amazing “backyard” full of additional pottery and an amazing view of Lake Michigan!!! Today & tomorrow from 11:00am-6:00pm. C’mon by and enjoy the view with me!
Another new Cirque du Soleil show has rolled into town.
And being the Cirque Groupie that I am… well, we “just had to” go!!!
If you haven’t guessed yet, “TORUK : The First Flight” is based on the “AVATAR” movie by James Cameron. Lots of blue folks with tails running around everywhere. Staged inside the United Center, instead of Le Grand Chapiteau tent, the show had some incredible visual effects. Lots of pixel mapping & projections throughout the place. Things moving, growing, flowing… and an amazing waterfall & river that seem to come out of nowhere!!! Unfortunately, I thought there were too many “effects” and not enough Cirque du Soleil. There were only a couple “Cirque-esque” acts. Still a fun night… which ends with the finally and the Tree of Souls.
Fresh out of the bisque… and now with a layer of green wax on the bottoms. A few drops of food coloring in the wax makes it so much easier to see!!! Gotta let this dry and the the glazing frenzy can begin! Under a little “time crunch” to get these into a cone six glaze kiln in time for this weekend’s art fair in Evanston.
You know they’re my favorite thing to make.
If I could only make one shape for the rest of my pottery career it would definitely be MUGS!!! So here’s to another Mugshot Monday… and a quick reminder of the Evanston Lakeshore Arts Festival this weekend if you want to get a mug of your own!!!
