Another stamped & soda-fired mug. Perfect for a gray, damp & chilly Monday.

Another mug. Another Monday… another MUGSHOT MONDAY.

So exciting to see that another one of my students made it onto the Lillstreet Student Brag Shelves!!! Great job Colin… so glad your “last” mug turned out great before your move to San Francisco!!! We’ll all miss you… and your mugs!

Well, it’s been a busy day of making more mugs! You know they’re my favorite!
Half of them are stoneware with iron – destined for cone 10 reduction glazes.
And the other half are B-clay reclaim – destined for cone 6 oxidation glazes.

And here’s a closer look… details, patterns,  and stamped textures!

Wedged clay cut into little carrot shapes. Pulled with a little wet friction.
When I get them to a desired width & thickness, I flip them over and set them up so they can stiffen up a bit. In about 15 minutes, I’ll start attaching them to the mug cylinders.

This beauty was made by my friend & potter Catherine Tweedie.
The beautiful soda-fired surface accentuates her “numerical obsession” quite nicely.

I love the textures, colors and range of layers on this one. It’s a keeper!

Tonight started with some plains cylinders… round, smooth & clean…
Destined to be another batch of mugs. More of my favorite form!

And then I pulled out one of my tool boxes of stamps… each one handmade…

A little stamping ensued… and soon enough all of them were textured & stamped.
Back under the plastic wrap drying up a bit more for trimming tomorrow night.
